FIA GT call up for Niko


24yr old Finnish racing driver Niko Nurminen has been called up to drive for the Czech National team for the FIA GT championship round at the Oschersleben circuit in Germany on the 27/28 August. Niko will be racing the teams Porsche GT3 car and represents a huge step forward for the young fin's promising career.

The FIA GT championship represents one of the highest stages on the motorsport elite ranks along with F1, Le Mans and WRC events.

Niko's car will be in the GT2 catagory and the Porsche 996 GT3 RS car will be gunning for victory as it currently lies 4th in the standings. Niko will share the car over the gruelling race with team owner Jan Vonka and yet to be confirmed Italian driver Mauro Casadei.

The weekend will be a huge learning curve but Niko doesnt belive the power step up will be a huge shock, "The circuit and the car will be new to me but the Porsche only has about twice the power than other cars that I have driven before. I have learnt to adapt so quickly before I cant see this being a problem, its a new challenge and im very much looking forward to it!"

The Oscherseben weekend will be the chance for Niko to shine infront of the larger teams in a push to help him into seat for next year "my main aim is to get good laptimes and not make any mistakes, the team has given me a very vaulable opportunity as they want to see how I perform in trials for a seat next year, it will be vaulable experience".
