24yr old Finnish racing driver Niko Nurminen has been
called up to drive for the Czech National team for the FIA GT championship
round at the Oschersleben circuit in Germany on the 27/28 August. Niko will be
racing the teams Porsche GT3 car and represents a huge step forward for the
young fin's promising career.
The FIA GT championship represents one of
the highest stages on the motorsport elite ranks along with F1, Le Mans and WRC
events.
Niko's car will be in the GT2 catagory and the Porsche 996 GT3
RS car will be gunning for victory as it currently lies 4th in the standings.
Niko will share the car over the gruelling race with team owner Jan Vonka and
yet to be confirmed Italian driver Mauro Casadei.
The weekend will be a
huge learning curve but Niko doesnt belive the power step up will be a huge
shock, "The circuit and the car will be new to me but the Porsche only has
about twice the power than other cars that I have driven before. I have learnt
to adapt so quickly before I cant see this being a problem, its a new challenge
and im very much looking forward to it!"
The Oscherseben weekend will be
the chance for Niko to shine infront of the larger teams in a push to help him
into seat for next year "my main aim is to get good laptimes and not make any
mistakes, the team has given me a very vaulable opportunity as they want to see
how I perform in trials for a seat next year, it will be vaulable
experience".
